In this project, student teams will tour your facility (1- 2 hours) with a representative from your organization. Based upon this tour and operations management concepts learned in class, students will prepare a report & executive summary presentation with recommendations for improving:
- Strategic Competitiveness
- Strategic Capacity Planning
- Process Design, Layout and JIT/Lean
- Quality Control
- Inventory Control Systems
Learners
- 5 to 7-page report detailing recommendations for improved operations management. Reports will include a title page, table of contents, and reference page.
- A 5 to 7 slide presentation deck (executive summary) highlighting key findings/conclusions. Top teams will present to representatives from your organization.

Project Examples
Requirements
Students will work in teams of 5 to analyze your operations and make improvement recommendations by assessing some or all of the following:
- Strategic Competitiveness - Students will perform an assessment of your mission/vision/goals and competitive priorities
- Strategic Capacity Planning - Students will perform calculations to assess capacity (assumptions may need to be made if data cannot be provided)
- Process Design, Layout and JIT/Lean - Students will identify examples of waste, layout, or other inefficiencies
- Quality Control mechanisms - Students will apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to assess quality control mechanisms, degree to which Quality is built into your processes, and success of quality maintenance
- Inventory Control - Students will assess inventory control systems
